The Learn button on a LiftMaster garage door opener is the program button used to add or program remote controls, keypads, and MyQ devices, located on the motor unit mounted on ceiling of garage. Learn button is square button typically near antenna wire, LED indicator, and logic board, color varies by model and year, including yellow, purple, red, orange, green, or red-orange, with color indicating Security+ technology generation and frequency. Yellow Learn button indicates Security+ 2.0 with MyQ on current models like 8355W, 84505, 8500W. Purple indicates Security+ 315 MHz on models 2006-2014. Red/orange indicates Security+ 390 MHz on models 1997-2005. Green indicates older Billion code. To identify Learn button, look on back or side of motor unit, near where antenna wire hangs, button is labeled Learn or has LED next to it. To use Learn button for programming, press and release it, LED will light steady for 30 seconds indicating program mode, then press remote button within 30 seconds to program. To erase all codes, hold Learn button for 6 seconds until LED turns off. Learn button is also called Smart button on older LiftMaster and Chamberlain models.
