What season do earwigs go away? Earwigs are most active in spring and summer when temperatures warm and humidity high, and they tend to go away or become less active in late fall and winter when temperatures drop and conditions become cold and dry. In many regions, earwig activity peaks in June through August, and they seek shelter in fall, often moving indoors seeking warmth and moisture as outdoor temperatures cool. They overwinter as adults in sheltered spots like under leaf litter, mulch, soil, and in cracks, becoming dormant in winter and less visible. So they go away in winter season when cold, becoming inactive and hiding in sheltered areas, though in mild climates they may remain active year-round. Indoors, they may persist if moisture present, but generally less active in winter months November through February, with activity resuming in spring when temperatures rise.
