Does vinegar stop earwigs? Vinegar can help deter earwigs to some extent, as strong acidic smell of vinegar acts as mild repellent, though not highly effective alone. White vinegar diluted with water sprayed around entry points, baseboards, and damp areas may deter earwigs temporarily, as they dislike strong smells, and vinegar can also help clean areas where they hide and remove food for prey. However, vinegar does not kill earwigs reliably, it may kill on direct heavy contact by drowning or irritation but not effective insecticide. Better repellents include essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, tea tree, cedar, and citrus which have stronger repellent effect. Vinegar can be used as part of cleaning and mild repellent strategy, combined with reducing moisture, sealing cracks, removing leaf litter and mulch near foundation, and using diatomaceous earth or insecticide sprays for control. So vinegar may help stop earwigs mildly as deterrent but not strong, use as supplemental cleaning repellent with other measures for more effective control.
