Do earwigs lay eggs indoors? Earwigs generally do not lay eggs indoors, as they prefer to lay eggs outdoors in moist soil, under mulch, leaf litter, rocks, and in protected underground burrows where humidity high and conditions stable for eggs. Female earwig digs small chamber in soil and lays clutch of 20 to 80 eggs, guarding them until hatching. Indoors, conditions are usually too dry and disturbed for egg laying, and earwigs that wander indoors are usually seeking moisture and shelter but not breeding. However, in damp basements, crawl spaces, or potted plant soil indoors with high moisture, earwigs could potentially lay eggs if conditions suitable, but this is uncommon. Most indoor earwigs are accidental invaders from outdoors, not breeding indoors. So earwigs do not typically lay eggs indoors, they lay outdoors in soil, and indoor earwigs are not reproducing inside, they enter seeking moisture.
