What is the lifespan of an earwig? The lifespan of an earwig is typically about one year, with most species living as annual insects completing life cycle within a year. They overwinter as adults in sheltered spots like soil, leaf litter, and cracks, laying eggs in spring, with eggs hatching in few weeks, nymphs developing through molts over summer, and adults dying in late fall after reproducing. Some species may live slightly longer, up to 2 years in ideal conditions with mild winters, especially in captivity with proper moisture and food. Female earwigs guard eggs and nymphs. So lifespan is roughly one year from egg to adult death, with adults living few months after reproduction. In protected indoor environments with moisture, they may live longer but generally annual.
