The mechanical opposite of a pipe reducer is a pipe increaser or an expander fitting. While a reducer steps down the diameter of a piping system from a larger size to a smaller size, an increaser steps up the diameter from a smaller pipe to a larger pipe. Expanders are commonly utilized when fluid flow needs to slow down, when transitioning away from high-pressure pump outlets, or when connecting smaller lines into massive main trunk lines to accommodate higher volume capacities without experiencing excessive friction losses.
