LG TVs are among the best on the market, especially their OLED models, but they have several disadvantages depending on the technology. For LG OLED TVs, the primary disadvantage is the risk of permanent burn-in or image retention when static images like news tickers, channel logos, or video game HUDs are displayed for many hours, although this risk is much lower on newer models with pixel refresher and screen shift technology. OLEDs are also not as bright as high-end LED TVs from Samsung or Hisense, so they can struggle in very bright sunlit rooms and may not deliver as much punch for daytime HDR viewing. For LG's LED QNED and NanoCell TVs, the disadvantage is lower contrast compared to OLED and compared to Samsung's VA-panel QLEDs, leading to more backlight blooming and less deep blacks, especially in dark rooms. Another common complaint is LG's webOS smart platform, which, while fast and feature-rich, shows more ads and sponsored content on the home screen than some competitors. Price is also a factor, as LG OLEDs are typically more expensive than comparable TCL or Hisense LED models. Finally, LG's lower-end UHD models use IPS panels that have wide viewing angles but weaker contrast and black levels than VA competitors, making them less ideal for dedicated home theater dark room use.
