Argon is most commonly and extensively used as an inert shielding gas in metal arc welding processes (such as TIG and MIG welding) to prevent hot molten metals from oxidizing. Its second most prominent application is as an insulating gas sealed inside modern double-pane and triple-pane residential windows to reduce thermal heat transfer and improve overall building energy efficiency.
