Argon gas is significantly denser than ambient air, having a relative density of about 1.38 times that of air. Because of this high molecular weight, argon gas sinks and pools near the ground in unventilated or low-lying areas. This physical property makes proper ventilation critical when handling argon cylinders in closed workshops to prevent dangerous oxygen displacement near floor level.
