If you see a tick, whether crawling on clothing, skin, or attached, you should act promptly to remove it safely and prevent disease transmission, as prompt removal greatly reduces risk. If tick is crawling on clothing or skin and not attached, you can remove it by picking it up with tissue, tape, or tweezers, place it in sealed bag or container with rubbing alcohol to kill it, and wash and dry clothing on high heat for 30 minutes as heat kills ticks, and shower within two hours and do thorough tick check of entire body including scalp, behind ears, armpits, groin, behind knees, and waistband. If tick is attached to skin, remove it promptly with fine tipped tweezers, grasp as close to skin as possible, pull straight up with steady pressure without twisting or squeezing body, avoid crushing, clean bite area with soap and water or alcohol, save tick in sealed bag with date for identification if symptoms develop, and wash hands. Do not use folk methods like burning, nail polish, or petroleum jelly which can cause tick to regurgitate pathogens. After removal, monitor for symptoms like expanding rash, fever, fatigue, joint pain for 30 days, and see doctor if symptoms appear, mentioning tick bite. Check pets and home for more ticks, and use repellents and permethrin treated clothing for prevention in future.
