Informal nicknames, colloquialisms, and slang terms used by families and friends to describe a basement include the lower deck, the underground lair, the cellar, the sub-level, the rec room, or the dungeon. In internet culture and gaming tropes, it is also frequently referred to as the "man cave" or the stereotypical domain of the reclusive "basement dweller," capturing the cultural associations of subterranean isolation and leisure.
