No, Glidden and Behr are not the same, though they are often confused because both are sold at Home Depot and compete in the same mid-range price category. They are owned by different parent companies, made in different factories, and have different formulations. Glidden is owned by PPG Industries, a global coatings company headquartered in Pittsburgh that also owns PPG Paints, Olympic, Dulux in Canada, and Comex in Mexico. Behr is owned by Masco Corporation and is manufactured by Behr Process Corporation in Santa Ana, California. Both brands are sold at Home Depot, but Behr is Home Depot's exclusive flagship brand with dedicated displays and is positioned as Home Depot's premium DIY brand, while Glidden is positioned as a value alternative alongside Behr. In terms of formulation, Behr paints, especially Marquee and Dynasty, are known for a very thick, high-solids formula with strong one-coat hide and excellent stain resistance, while Glidden Premium is thinner, lower odor, and easier to roll with better touch-up. Consumer Reports consistently ranks Behr Marquee higher than Glidden Premium, 82 versus about 71, but Glidden costs less per gallon. So they are distinct competitors, not the same paint in different cans.
