Getting rid of 100 percent of mice is possible but requires persistence and a combination of methods over several weeks, not a single quick fix. Begin by confirming the extent of the infestation through droppings, gnaw marks, noises, and entry points. Mice reproduce very quickly, so early action is important. The core strategy is exclusion plus trapping plus sanitation. Exclusion means permanently sealing every hole larger than a quarter inch with steel wool and caulk, metal mesh, or concrete, including around pipes, vents, garage doors, and foundation cracks. Sanitation means removing all accessible food by storing everything in sealed containers, cleaning kitchens thoroughly, removing pet food at night, and decluttering nesting sites. Trapping means using six to twelve snap traps or electronic traps at once, not just one or two, baited with peanut butter or chocolate and placed along walls where droppings are found. Check traps daily, dispose of dead mice with gloves, and reset. Do not rely solely on poison, because mice often die in walls causing odor and poison does not prevent new mice from entering. Monitor for fresh droppings for at least seven to fourteen days with no signs before considering the job done. For severe infestations, hire a licensed pest control professional who can provide a warranty and thorough proofing.
