Can an electric oven blow up is rare but possible in certain conditions, though it is extremely unlikely to explode like gas oven, but can cause fire, electrical arcing, and glass shattering. Electric ovens like GE JTS5000SNSS and Whirlpool WOS52EC0HS run on 240 volts and do not have combustible gas that explodes, so true explosion is almost impossible, but electrical fire can occur if wiring short circuits due to damaged bake element, loose terminal block where power cord connects causing arcing that melts plastic, or control board overheating, causing smoke and flames inside. Second, thermal runaway if temperature sensor fails and oven overheats beyond 600 degrees during self-clean, can cause food residue to catch fire. Third, glass door shattering can happen suddenly with loud bang that sounds like explosion, due to tempered glass developing micro-cracks from impact or thermal stress, causing glass to shatter into small pieces, this is not explosion but can be startling. Fourth, steam explosion if water poured into very hot oven during self-clean causes rapid steam. To prevent issues, clean oven regularly to remove grease that can catch fire, check power cord and outlet for burning smell, do not use aluminum foil on bottom that blocks airflow, and if you hear loud pop and see smoke, turn off breaker, open windows, and call fire department if flames. Electric ovens are safer than gas regarding explosion risk.
