Why did your security alarm randomly go off in middle of night is common and can be caused by several factors. Most common cause is low battery in sensors or panel, low battery triggers tamper alarm at night when temperature drops. Second is faulty door window sensors, loose magnets that shift when house settles or wind pushes door slightly, causing open close trigger. Third is motion detectors triggered by pets, curtains moving from HVAC air flow, insects crawling on detector, or spider webs causing false PIR triggers, especially at night when heating kicks on. Fourth is power outage or power surge causing panel to alarm. Fifth is smoke, carbon monoxide, or environmental sensors detecting dust, humidity, or low battery. Sixth is user error, someone left window cracked or did not close door fully. Seventh is phone line or cellular communicator failure triggering trouble alarm. Eighth is outdated firmware or panel malfunction. To fix, check panel for fault history, replace batteries in sensors every 3 to 5 years and panel battery every 3 years, adjust motion sensitivity, ensure doors windows closed tightly, clean detectors, and ensure sensors mounted securely. If continues, call ADT or security provider to inspect system.
