Why did Franklin not become President? Benjamin Franklin did not become President because he was older than other founders, died in 1790 shortly after Constitution ratified and before first presidential election under Constitution in 1789, though he was alive for first election he was 83 years old, very elderly and in poor health, and not candidate. Franklin was considered for president but age and health prevented, plus he was more diplomat and scientist than political leader seeking executive power. Also Franklin was not interested in presidency, focused on diplomacy, science, and statesmanship. He was President of Pennsylvania, which was like governor, from 1785 to 1788, but not US President. Additionally, Franklin was never considered serious contender for US President because Washington was unanimous choice, and Franklin too old and ill. So why Franklin not become President, because he was elderly, ill, died soon after Constitution, not seeking office, and Washington was consensus choice, plus Franklin had role as elder statesman and diplomat rather than executive leader.
