Heil trucks, which is the common name for Heil Environmental, a leading manufacturer of garbage trucks and refuse collection bodies, is currently owned by Terex Corporation, which then sold the business to Dover Corporation. To clarify the history, Heil was founded in 1901 as Heil Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, making it one of the oldest refuse body manufacturers. For many years it was privately owned. In 2013, Heil was acquired by Dover Corporation, a large diversified industrial conglomerate headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois, as part of Dover's Environmental Solutions Group. Then in 2017, Dover restructured its waste handling businesses and formed Environmental Solutions Group which includes Heil, Marathon, and Curotto-Can. Most recently, in 2024, Terex Corporation, which also makes utilities and materials processing equipment, announced acquisition of Environmental Solutions Group from Dover for 2 billion dollars, making Terex the current owner of Heil. So today, Heil Environmental operates as a brand within Environmental Solutions Group under Terex. Its main manufacturing facilities are in Fort Payne, Alabama and other locations, where it builds front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders, and automated garbage truck bodies that are mounted on chassis from Mack, Peterbilt, Freightliner, and other truck manufacturers.
