Clark and Kensington paint is owned by Ace Hardware Corporation, which is a retailer-owned hardware cooperative headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois, with over 5,000 stores worldwide. Ace Hardware owns the Clark and Kensington brand name, trademarks, color system, and marketing, and sells it exclusively at Ace Hardware stores as its private label premium paint. However, Clark and Kensington paint is manufactured by Benjamin Moore, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett's company, under a manufacturing agreement. Benjamin Moore produces Clark and Kensington in its factories to Ace specifications, but Ace owns the brand and controls distribution and pricing, similar to how Home Depot owns Behr brand but Masco makes it. Ace launched Clark and Kensington in 2011 to replace its previous Ace Royal and other paint lines, positioning it as designer-inspired premium paint. Royal, Ace's budget paint line, is also owned by Ace and also made by Benjamin Moore. So ownership is Ace Hardware, manufacturing is Benjamin Moore. You cannot buy Clark and Kensington at Home Depot, Lowes, or Benjamin Moore dealers, as it is exclusive to Ace. Ace sets warranty and promotions. So Ace Hardware is owner of brand, Benjamin Moore is contract manufacturer.
