The Mohawks in Canada are Indigenous people, part of Haudenosaunee or Iroquois Confederacy, known as Kanien'keha:ka meaning People of the Flint, with major communities in Quebec and Ontario including Kahnawake, Kanesatake, Akwesasne, Tyendinaga, and Six Nations. Mohawks in Canada are First Nations, originally from Mohawk Valley New York, but after American Revolution in 1784 many Mohawks who were allies of British moved to Canada to reserves granted by British, including Kahnawake near Montreal Quebec founded 1667 as Jesuit mission, Kanesatake near Oka Quebec, Akwesasne which straddles Ontario, Quebec, and New York border with about 13,000 people, Tyendinaga near Belleville Ontario, and Six Nations of Grand River near Brantford Ontario which includes Mohawks and other Iroquois nations. Mohawks in Canada have self-government, language Kanien'kéha, culture with longhouse, lacrosse, and are known for ironwork and construction, with many Mohawk ironworkers building skyscrapers. So Mohawks in Canada are Haudenosaunee First Nations with communities in Quebec and Ontario, population around 20,000 in Canada, maintaining traditions and sovereignty as part of Iroquois Confederacy.
