Most Mohawks live now in New York, Ontario, and Quebec, with major communities at Akwesasne which straddles US Canada border, Kahnawake near Montreal, Kanesatake near Montreal, Tyendinaga near Belleville Ontario, and Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, plus urban areas like Montreal and New York. Mohawk population today around 30,000, with majority living in Canada, especially Quebec and Ontario, with largest communities being Kahnawake Mohawk Territory near Montreal Quebec with about 8,000, Akwesasne Mohawk Territory which spans Ontario, Quebec, and New York with about 13,000, Kanesatake near Oka Quebec, Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory near Belleville Ontario with about 2,000, and Six Nations of Grand River near Brantford Ontario which includes Mohawks plus other Iroquois nations. In US, Mohawks live on St. Regis Mohawk Reservation in New York part of Akwesasne, and in New York State. Many Mohawks also live in cities like Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and New York City for work. So most Mohawks live now in Akwesasne, Kahnawake, and Kanesatake in Quebec and Ontario border area, and Tyendinaga and Six Nations in Ontario, maintaining Mohawk Nation communities as part of Haudenosaunee Confederacy with self-government.
