Yes, there are Mohawk Indians left, with population around 30,000 living today in communities in New York, Ontario, and Quebec, maintaining culture, language, and self-government as vibrant Indigenous Nation, not extinct. Mohawk Indians, Kanien'keha:ka People of the Flint, are alive and thriving, with major communities at Akwesasne which straddles Ontario, Quebec, and New York border with about 13,000 people, Kahnawake near Montreal Quebec with about 8,000, Kanesatake near Oka Quebec, Tyendinaga near Belleville Ontario, and Six Nations of Grand River near Brantford Ontario which includes Mohawks and other Haudenosaunee nations. Mohawks have schools, language programs for Kanien'kéha language, longhouse religion, cultural practices like lacrosse, beadwork, and are known for ironwork building skyscrapers. They are federally recognized as St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in New York and as First Nations in Canada with self-government. So yes, Mohawk Indians left and thriving, with cultural revitalization, political activism for land rights, and contributions, with famous Mohawks like actor Jay Silverheels and musician Robbie Robertson, maintaining heritage as Keepers of Eastern Door of Iroquois Confederacy founded around 1142, not extinct.
