Lennox Company, formally known as Lennox International Inc., originated in Marshalltown, Iowa, in the United States in 1895, founded by Dave Lennox, who was born in 1856 and was an inventor and businessman. Dave Lennox started his business in Marshalltown, a city in central Iowa, where he invented and patented a riveted steel furnace that was more efficient than cast iron furnaces of the time, called the torrid zone furnace, which revolutionized home heating. He founded the Dave Lennox Manufacturing Company in Marshalltown to make these furnaces, and the company grew from a small Iowa machine shop into a major HVAC manufacturer. The company remained based in Marshalltown for many years before expanding and eventually moving its corporate headquarters to Richardson, Texas, near Dallas, where it is headquartered today. Lennox still has significant operations in Marshalltown and other Iowa locations, and it employs about 13,000 people worldwide. So Lennox originated in Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1895 as a small furnace company founded by Dave Lennox, and over 130 years it grew into one of North America's largest HVAC companies making furnaces, air conditioners, and commercial rooftop units sold through authorized dealers across the US and Canada.
