You should not paint a house in certain weather, surface, or timing conditions to avoid poor adhesion, peeling, and wasted money. Do not paint exterior when temperature is below 35 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit or above 90 degrees, depending on paint label, as paint will not cure properly, may crack or bubble. Do not paint exterior in rain, high humidity above 70 percent, or when rain is expected within 24 hours, as moisture prevents adhesion. Do not paint in direct intense sun, as paint dries too fast and leaves lap marks. Do not paint interior when humidity is very high without ventilation, or when room is very cold. Do not paint exterior when wind is very strong, dust and debris will stick. Do not paint surfaces that are dirty, moldy, chalky, peeling, or wet, you must clean, scrape, sand, and prime first. Do not paint over rotted wood, must repair first. Do not paint right after power washing, let dry 24 to 48 hours. Do not paint when you have not done prep, or when you are rushing to sell house and hiding problems, as it will peel quickly. Do not paint during freezing winter exterior jobs. For interior, avoid painting when you cannot ventilate fumes, especially with oil paint, or when you have newborn without low VOC paint.
