When you need a better alternative to standard petroleum-based WD-40 for lubricating plumbing fixtures, ceramic cartridges, or rubber O-rings, you should use 100-percent food-grade silicone grease (plumber's grease). For loosening stuck, corroded, or rusted metal threaded joints or nuts, a dedicated liquid penetrating oil (such as Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster) or natural white vinegar works much more effectively without risking damage to rubber components. Verification: Confirm that the alternative lubricant or penetrant matches the specific material requirements of your repair task.
