What makes something reflective depends on whether you mean reflective of light or reflective of thought. For light reflection, something is reflective because it has smooth, shiny surface that bounces light rays rather than absorbing them, such as mirror with metallic coating, glossy paint, polished metal, glass, water, or retroreflective material with tiny glass beads that reflect light back to source. Smoothness at microscopic level and material composition with high reflectivity makes something reflective. For example, mirror is reflective because silver coating reflects almost all light. For thought reflection, something is reflective because it prompts deep thinking and introspection, such as journaling prompts, meaningful experiences, or quiet environment that encourages contemplation. In personality, person is reflective because they have habit of introspection, self-awareness, and metacognition, taking time to examine experiences. So reflective of light requires shiny smooth surface, reflective of thought requires prompting introspection.
