The strongest natural disinfectant is generally considered to be distilled white vinegar combined with hydrogen peroxide, or essential oils like thyme oil and oregano oil, though natural disinfectants are weaker than chemical EPA registered disinfectants like bleach. Among single natural substances, thyme oil containing thymol is considered one of the strongest, as thymol is EPA registered as disinfectant active ingredient in products like Benefect Decon 30 which kills 99.99 percent of bacteria and is botanical, effective against TB and MRSA with proper contact time. Oregano oil containing carvacrol is also very potent against bacteria and fungi in lab studies. For household use, 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, though technically not natural plant extract, is made from water and oxygen and breaks down into water and oxygen, making it one of strongest clean natural-like disinfectants that kills many bacteria and viruses with 1 minute contact time and is used in hospitals as Oxivir. White vinegar at 5 percent acetic acid has mild antimicrobial activity against some bacteria but does not kill spores or many viruses, so not true strongest. Steam above 212F is strongest physical natural disinfectant, killing most microbes without chemicals. Manuka honey has strong antimicrobial for wounds. However, even strongest natural disinfectants are not as reliably effective as bleach or accelerated hydrogen peroxide for serious pathogens like C. difficile spores or tuberculosis that require negative pressure isolation in hospitals, and natural does not mean safe, essential oils can irritate lungs in closed rooms if overused.
