JTR military refers to Joint Travel Regulations, which are the Department of Defense regulations governing official travel and transportation allowances for members of the Uniformed Services, including Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Space Force, and their dependents. JTR is published by Defense Travel Management Office, DTMO, and implements travel laws from Congress. JTR military covers all types of official military travel, including Temporary Duty TDY, also called Temporary Additional Duty TAD, Permanent Change of Station PCS, deployment, training, and separation. JTR defines what military members can be reimbursed for, including per diem for lodging, meals, and incidental expenses based on location, transportation such as airfare, rental car, and privately owned vehicle mileage at prescribed rates, and miscellaneous expenses like baggage fees. JTR also covers dependent travel, dislocation allowance, and overseas cost of living. Military members must use Defense Travel System DTS to book travel and must have authorized orders. JTR ensures uniform travel policy across all military branches. It is updated monthly and available at travel.dod.mil. JTR military also specifies receipt requirements, 75 dollar threshold for receipts except lodging always requires receipt, and approval authorities. So JTR military is official DoD travel rulebook for service members, telling them what travel is authorized and how they get reimbursed.
