JTR receipt requirements under Joint Travel Regulations require receipts for lodging always, and for all other expenses over 75 dollars, with lodging always requiring itemized receipt regardless of amount. Under JTR 0103 and Federal Travel Regulation, you must provide receipt for lodging, which must be itemized showing daily room rate, taxes, fees, dates, and proof of payment, even if lodging is under 75 dollars, which rarely happens. For airfare, rental car, registration fees, and other transportation, receipt required regardless of amount because these are high-cost items. For other expenses like taxi, parking, baggage fees, and other miscellaneous expenses, receipt is required if expense is over 75 dollars per expense, if under 75 dollars, no receipt required but you must still document expense and it is recommended to keep receipt for audit. For example, taxi fare 50 dollars no receipt required, but taxi 80 dollars requires receipt. Some approving officials and local policies may require receipts for all expenses regardless of JTR threshold for accountability. In Defense Travel System DTS, you must upload receipts for lodging and expenses over 75 dollars. For per diem meals, no receipt required because you receive flat rate. For actual expense lodging above per diem, you need receipt plus justification and approval. So JTR receipt requirements are lodging always, airfare and rental car always, and all other expenses over 75 dollars need receipt, under 75 dollars no receipt but recommended to keep for audit purposes.
