In geography, geology, and architecture, several distinct raised landforms and structural lines are called a ridge. In topography, a long, narrow chain of hills or mountains with a continuous elevated crest is called a mountain ridge. In civil architecture, the highest horizontal line where opposing roof planes intersect is called a roof ridge or ridge line. Additionally, in manufacturing and anatomy, narrow raised linear strips—such as fingerprints or bone margins—are frequently designated as ridges.
