A prominent geological landform characterized by a long, narrow elevation of land with a continuous high crest is called a ridge. Similarly, in structural engineering, the highest horizontal line connecting opposing roof slopes is called a roof ridge. In anatomy, raised linear anatomical lines on bones or skin surfaces are also called ridges. Across all these diverse fields, any long, narrow, raised strip or elevated boundary that stands noticeably above adjacent lower areas is given this designation.
