Simply put, a ridge is an elevated, narrow line of land or material that is longer than it is wide. In nature, it looks like a long row of hills connected together at the top, forming a continuous spine across the countryside. On a house, it is the highest horizontal line across the very top of the roof. Whenever you see a long, raised edge that slopes downward on both sides, you are looking at a classic ridge, which acts as a natural divider for water, wind, or structural loads.
