What happened to LifeProof cases is LifeProof phone case brand was acquired by OtterBox in 2013 and continues to exist under OtterBox ownership, but became less prominent as OtterBox focuses more on OtterBox brand cases, with LifeProof cases still sold for waterproof protection but market share decreased due to competition from OtterBox and others, with LifeProof Fre and Nuud still available. LifeProof cases, founded 2009 in San Diego, known for waterproof cases like LifeProof Fre which made iPhone waterproof, was acquired by OtterBox in May 2013 for 50 million dollars, making LifeProof subsidiary of OtterBox, with LifeProof cases continuing to be sold at Best Buy, Amazon, and LifeProof.com, but OtterBox now focuses more on OtterBox brand cases like Defender which also have water resistance. LifeProof cases still exist, offering waterproof cases for iPhone and Samsung, but less marketed than OtterBox cases, with some models discontinued like Nuud, but Fre still available, with LifeProof cases now competing with OtterBox's own waterproof cases. So what happened to LifeProof cases is they were acquired by OtterBox and continue under OtterBox, still available but less prominent, with OtterBox owning LifeProof brand, with LifeProof cases still offering waterproof protection up to 6 feet, but market shifted to OtterBox brand for rugged, with LifeProof remaining for waterproof niche, not out of business.
