For children, a pier is a long wooden or concrete walkway built out over the water, like at a lake or the ocean beach. It is a fun place where kids can walk far out over the water without getting wet, look down to spot swimming fish, go fishing with a pole, watch boats dock, or eat ice cream while enjoying a scenic view of the waves crashing below.
