Three types of claims can be categorized in different fields, but commonly in academic writing and insurance, three types are claims of fact, claims of value, and claims of policy, or in insurance, property, liability, and health claims. In argumentative writing, three types of claims are, claim of fact which asserts something is true or false and can be proven with evidence, for example HEPA filtration removes 99.97 percent of particles is claim of fact that can be tested, grey and gray are two spellings of same color is claim of fact. Claim of value which asserts something is good or bad, moral or immoral, and expresses judgment, for example Milwaukee Packout is best tool box system is claim of value based on criteria. Claim of policy which asserts that something should or should not be done, proposing action, for example storage facilities should require climate control for clothes storage is claim of policy advocating action. In insurance context, three types are property claims for damage to property like fire in storage unit, liability claims for injury caused to others, and health claims for medical expenses. In legal context, three types are contract claims, tort claims, and statutory claims. So three types of claims most taught are fact, value, and policy, covering what is true, what is good, and what should be done, providing framework for argumentation.
