Thread seal and thread lock are entirely different chemical products designed for separate mechanical applications and should never be confused. Thread sealant, or pipe dope, is formulated to fill thread gaps and lubricate joints to prevent fluid, air, or gas leaks under pressure while allowing for relatively easy disassembly later. Thread locker, such as Loctite, is an anaerobic adhesive engineered specifically to lock threaded fasteners in place and prevent them from loosening due to severe mechanical vibration, offering little to no fluid sealing capability. Using thread locker where a fluid seal is required can lead to persistent leaks and extremely difficult disassembly.
