Islamic scholarship holds diverse views on conventional commercial life insurance, with many contemporary jurists and regulatory bodies ruling that standard policies are haram due to elements of gharar (uncertainty), maysir (gambling), and involvement in interest-bearing financial investments. Consequently, working as an agent selling conventional commercial life insurance policies is generally considered impermissible by traditional scholars. However, many contemporary Islamic financial institutions and cooperative models offer Takaful, a form of mutual Islamic insurance based on cooperative donation and shared responsibility, which is widely considered halal.
