Is GE still American owned depends on which GE business, as General Electric】 split into three companies in 2024, with GE Aerospace still American owned, GE Vernova American owned, and GE Appliances now Chinese owned. General Electric Company, founded in 1892 in Schenectady, New York, USA, split into three independent companies in April 2024, GE Aerospace, headquartered in Evendale, Ohio, USA, makes jet engines, remains American owned and publicly traded, GE Vernova, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, makes power and renewable energy, remains American owned and publicly traded, and GE HealthCare, spun off in 2023, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, USA, makes medical equipment, American owned. However, GE Appliances, which makes GE refrigerators, washers, dryers, was sold in 2016 to Haier, Chinese company headquartered in Qingdao, China, for 5.6 billion dollars, so GE Appliances brand GE is now Chinese owned, though still uses GE name under license and has manufacturing in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. So GE Aerospace and GE Vernova are still American owned, GE Appliances is Chinese owned by Haier. So is GE still American owned, yes for GE Aerospace and GE Vernova, which are core GE companies, still American owned and headquartered in USA, but GE Appliances is Chinese owned by Haier, though brand still GE and made in USA partly.
