Craftsman is considered a good garage door opener for value and reliability, offering decent quality at affordable price, though brand is now discontinued and support is limited, making Chamberlain and LiftMaster better for new purchase today. Craftsman garage door openers, made by Chamberlain Group same as Chamberlain and LiftMaster, offered chain drive and belt drive models with Security+ rolling code, MyQ compatibility on newer models, and good motor power 1/2 HP to 3/4 HP, with prices 200 to 400 dollars unit, providing reliable operation, quiet belt drive options for attached garages, and decent warranty of lifetime motor on many models. Quality wise, Craftsman is rated similarly to Chamberlain for reliability, with average lifespan 10 to 15 years, and parts widely available as same as Chamberlain. However, Craftsman garage door openers are no longer manufactured since Sears sold Craftsman brand and Sears bankruptcy in 2018, so new units are old stock and warranty support is limited, parts may become harder to find, and MyQ support may require add-on. For existing Craftsman opener, it is good and reliable, but for new purchase, Chamberlain B550, B970 or LiftMaster 8355W, 84505 are better choices due to active production, full warranty, and MyQ app support. So Craftsman was good garage door opener when actively sold, but today Chamberlain and LiftMaster are recommended for new purchase.
