Chamberlain is generally considered slightly better than Craftsman today because Chamberlain is actively produced and supported with MyQ app and current models, while Craftsman garage door opener brand has been discontinued at Sears and support is limited, though historically they were essentially same quality. Both Chamberlain and Craftsman openers are made by Chamberlain Group and share same Security+ technology, motor, and parts, so quality and durability are essentially same when comparing equivalent models, both offering chain and belt drive with similar lifespan 10 to 15 years. However, Chamberlain is currently sold at Home Depot, Lowes, and Amazon with active models like B550, B970, B1381 with MyQ smartphone control, battery backup, and modern safety features, plus full warranty support and parts availability. Craftsman openers were sold at Sears and are now largely discontinued, with Sears bankruptcy affecting warranty support, parts may be harder to find for older Craftsman models, and MyQ support for older Craftsman may require add-on. New Craftsman openers are no longer produced, so you buy old stock. For new purchase, Chamberlain is better because it is current, supported, with MyQ app, and available. For existing Craftsman opener, quality is same as Chamberlain, but replacement parts and support are better with Chamberlain. So Chamberlain is better for new purchase due to availability and support, but quality-wise they were same.
