50 percent tint is not generally hard to see out of at night for most drivers, though it does reduce light transmission somewhat compared to clear glass. 50 percent tint allows 50 percent of visible light to pass through, blocking half the light, which is considered a light to medium tint. During bright daylight, 50 percent looks like a light smoke and visibility from inside is excellent. At night, you will notice that everything outside appears somewhat dimmer, like wearing light sunglasses, but you can still see road markings, headlights, streetlights, and pedestrians reasonably well in urban areas with street lighting. In very dark rural areas with no streetlights, 50 percent can make it a bit harder to see unlit objects or when backing up, but it is far easier than darker tints like 20 percent or 5 percent. Most drivers adapt quickly to 50 percent. It is a popular choice for front side windows for people who want some privacy and heat rejection while maintaining good night visibility. For windshields, 50 percent is darker than recommended for night driving, as any windshield tint reduces visibility more noticeably because you look through it straight ahead. For side windows, 50 percent is generally considered safe and manageable at night, unlike 20 percent or darker which can be challenging.
