Yes, you can still see out of 5 percent tint, but visibility is significantly reduced, especially at night, and it takes some adjustment. 5 percent tint, also called limo tint, allows only 5 percent of visible light to pass through, meaning it blocks 95 percent of light, making it very dark from the outside and quite dark from the inside as well. During bright daylight, you can see out reasonably well, though everything will look much darker, like wearing very dark sunglasses, and colors will be muted. At dusk, dawn, or on overcast days, visibility becomes more challenging, and at night, it can be quite difficult to see, especially in poorly lit areas, when backing up, or when trying to see pedestrians, cyclists, or road signs. Many drivers with 5 percent tint roll down windows when turning or backing up at night. Legally, 5 percent is only allowed on rear side windows and rear windshields in most states and is illegal on front side windows and windshields because of safety concerns. It provides maximum privacy during the day, as people outside cannot see in, but from inside you can still make out shapes, lights, and movement, just with greatly reduced clarity at night.
