Pergo floors do not scratch easily for normal use, as Pergo laminate features AC4 and AC5 wear ratings with aluminum oxide finish that resists scratches, and Pergo Extreme luxury vinyl plank features 20 mil wear layer that resists scratches, though they can scratch with heavy abuse. Pergo laminate, which invented laminate flooring, has durable aluminum oxide wear layer that is rated AC4 for residential heavy traffic and AC5 for commercial, making it scratch-resistant for pets, kids, and daily traffic, costing 1 to 3 dollars per square foot materials, with warranty covering wear-through. Pergo Extreme LVP has 20 mil wear layer that is good for scratch resistance, similar to Shaw Floorte Pro and Mohawk SolidTech, suitable for high-traffic homes. However, Pergo floors can scratch with dragging heavy furniture without felt pads, large dogs with long nails, and abrasive dirt that acts like sandpaper, so using felt pads, area rugs, and regular sweeping helps prevent scratches. Darker Pergo colors show scratches more than light colors. Compared to hardwood which scratches easily, Pergo laminate is more scratch-resistant, and compared to budget vinyl with 6 mil wear layer, Pergo is much more scratch-resistant. So Pergo floors do not scratch easily for normal use, but can scratch with abuse, so proper maintenance with felt pads and regular cleaning helps.
