Squirrels are not revengeful in the human sense of holding a grudge and planning to get even, because revenge requires complex emotions like spite and long-term planning for retaliation that squirrels do not possess. However, squirrels are intelligent, have good memory, and can remember negative experiences with specific people, places, and objects, which can look like revenge to humans. For example, if a person chases a squirrel, removes its feeder, or destroys its nest, the squirrel may become more cautious around that person, show alarm behaviors like chattering and tail flicking when that person appears, or avoid that area for a while. Some anecdotal stories describe squirrels chewing on furniture, raiding gardens more aggressively, or throwing things after being denied food, but these behaviors are more likely due to persistent foraging and learned association rather than deliberate revenge. Squirrels do have territorial behavior and will defend food caches and nests from other squirrels, and they can be aggressive when competing for resources. They also remember where they buried thousands of nuts and can remember which humans are friendly. So while they are not plotting revenge, they do learn from negative experiences and adjust their behavior to avoid threats and protect resources, which can appear revengeful but is actually survival-based learning and memory.
