No, Sage and Timberline are not the same, but they are related in construction software history, as Sage acquired Timberline. Timberline Software Corporation was founded in 1971 in Beaverton, Oregon, making construction accounting and estimating software called Timberline Office. In 2003, Sage Group plc, British multinational enterprise software company, acquired Timberline Software for about 100 million dollars and integrated it into Sage's construction division. After acquisition, Timberline products were rebranded as Sage Timberline Office, later Sage 100 Contractor, Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate, and Sage Estimating. So Sage is parent company, Timberline was product that is now called Sage 100 Contractor. Today, people still refer to Sage Timberline out of habit, but official name is Sage 100 Contractor. In other contexts, Sage and Timberline are completely different. Sage is herb, plant, and software company, Timberline is roofing shingle brand by GAF, ski resort, and geographic term for tree line elevation where trees stop growing. GAF Timberline shingles have no relation to Sage software except name. So Sage and Timberline are not same entity, but Sage owns former Timberline software. If you use old Timberline software, upgrade path is Sage 100 Contractor. So answer is no, they are not same, Sage is company that bought Timberline software in 2003.
