Viking has taken delivery of its newest river cruise ship, the Viking Dagur, further expanding its award-winning fleet of Longships. The vessel was officially handed over to the company at the Meyer Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany .

A New Addition to Viking's European Fleet

The Viking Dagur is a state-of-the-art Viking Longship, designed to accommodate 190 guests in 95 staterooms . The ship features elegant Scandinavian design and incorporates several of Viking's patented and proprietary innovations, including a square bow that allows for three full passenger decks, the indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace, and a unique asymmetric corridor layout that creates true two-room suites .

The vessel is purpose-built to sail Viking's popular itineraries on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers . Its planned routes include well-known journeys such as Rhine Getaway, Paris to the Swiss Alps, and festive options like Christmas on the Rhine and Christmas on the Rhine & Moselle .

Viking's Commitment to Growth

Leah Talactac, President and CEO of Viking, highlighted the significance of this milestone, stating, "The arrival of our newest river ship marks another important milestone as we continue to expand opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort" .

The delivery of the Viking Dagur is part of Viking's long-term growth strategy. According to the company's orderbook, it expects to take delivery of 21 additional river ships by 2028, along with nine new ocean ships and two expedition ships by 2031 . With these additions, Viking's fleet will comprise 114 river ships and 26 ocean and expedition vessels, solidifying its position as a global leader in experiential travel .

The Viking Dagur joins a fleet of more than 100 ships that explore 21 rivers, five oceans, and all seven continents, offering destination-focused journeys for curious travelers interested in science, history, culture, and cuisine .
