When a wall thermostat fails to show any display screen, it is typically caused by dead batteries, a tripped circuit breaker, or a blown low-voltage control fuse. Many digital thermostats rely on AA or AAA batteries to power the display; if these batteries are completely depleted, the screen will go blank. If your thermostat is hardwired directly to your indoor HVAC unit, a blank screen indicates a loss of 24-volt power, which is frequently caused by a blown 3-amp or 5-amp blade fuse on the indoor furnace control board triggered by a power surge. Additionally, loose low-voltage wire connections at the wall sub-base can interrupt power transmission. You can troubleshoot by replacing the batteries, inspecting the furnace control board fuse, and ensuring the faceplate snaps securely into place. You can verify that the issue is resolved when the display screen illuminates normally.
