The iconic pink color of Kirby was actually the result of a humorous developmental misunderstanding rather than a strict initial design choice by his creator, Masahiro Sakurai. During the early development of the original Game Boy title, when graphics were strictly monochrome and limited to shades of gray, Sakurai envisioned Kirby as yellow, while game designer Shigeru Miyamoto preferred him to be white. Because the marketing materials, box art, and final sprites were being finalized before official color schemes were locked down, the development team settled on vibrant pink, which ultimately became his signature look.
