Why did Jeff leave Amazon refers to Jeff Bezos leaving CEO role at Amazon, not Jeff from Coupling, as Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 and was CEO until 2021. Jeff Bezos announced in February 2021 that he would step down as CEO of Amazon in third quarter of 2021, transitioning to role of Executive Chairman of Amazon Board, with Andy Jassy, then CEO of Amazon Web Services, taking over as CEO. Reason Bezos gave was he wanted to focus on other passions and initiatives, including Day 1 Fund, Bezos Earth Fund for climate change, Blue Origin space company, The Washington Post, and other philanthropic efforts, while still remaining involved in Amazon as Executive Chairman focusing on new products and early initiatives. He said Amazon is what it is because of invention and he wanted to focus energy on new initiatives. He did not leave Amazon entirely, he remains largest shareholder and Executive Chairman, involved in major decisions, but no longer day to day CEO. Transition was planned and amicable, allowing Jassy to lead. So Jeff left CEO role to focus on other ventures and philanthropy while retaining influence as Executive Chairman.
