According to traditional Christian church history and martyrology, the Apostle John is widely believed to be the only one of the original twelve apostles who did not die a martyr's death by execution. Instead, he survived intense persecution, lived to an old age, and died of natural causes in Ephesus, while all the other apostles faced violent martyrdom for their faith.
