Who owns Mr. Handyman is Neighborly, which is large franchisor of home service brands based in Waco, Texas, and ultimate parent is private equity firm KKR. Mr. Handyman was founded in 2000 and later acquired by Neighborly, formerly Dwyer Group, which owns 29 home service brands including Molly Maid, Mr. Electric, Mr. Rooter, Rainbow International, and Mr. Handyman, with over 5,000 franchise locations worldwide and system-wide revenue over 3 billion dollars. Neighborly itself was acquired by KKR in 2021, making KKR ultimate owner. Each local Mr. Handyman franchise is individually owned and operated by local franchise owner who pays franchise fee and royalties to Neighborly and follows corporate standards, so local owner is franchisee, while brand owner is Neighborly. For example, Mr. Handyman of Seattle owned by local entrepreneur, while brand owned by Neighborly in Texas. So owner is Neighborly, owned by KKR, with individual franchises owned locally, not by single individual or Home Depot. This ownership structure is common for franchise systems, where corporate owns brand and support, local owns operations.
